Encode it is for encoding typed text or a text file less than 512 characters. If you try to encode a larger text file or type in more characters than that, only the first 512 characters will be saved. Using EnCodeIt is very simple. Just look at the menus. They are pretty much self-explanatory.
DeCodeIt
DeCodeIt is for decoding the encoded files created by EnCodeIt. Using DeCodeIt is very easy. There are only two menus, File and Edit. The File menu contains two items, Decode an Encoded File and Quit. These are pretty much self-explanatory. Currently, DeCodeIt cannot save decoded text. The Edit menu contains the standard editing controls. When you start up DeCodeIt, you may notice that you have the ability to start typing. This is a flaw that I don’t want to take the time to fix right now. You can use it as a feature to add headers to your decoded text. DeCodeIt, like EnCodeIt is limited to 512 characters. This makes it only useful for short messages between friends.
These programs started out when I was 11 years old. I wrote them in BASIC on my trusty Commodore 64C. When I got my Macintosh LC II, I also purchased FutureBASIC from Zedcor. I converted these programs over and added a standard Mac interface. The originals could only handle the 26 letters of the alphabet and a period. The Mac versions can handle every character that the Mac can. These programs are freeware, but feel free to send in money or postcards from your city or anything. These programs may be distibuted freely as long as this ReadMe file is included.
